Birthday Fire

by Fig   Sep 16, 2005

Her fifteenth birthday spent and gone, Will never come again
Next year another number will be tagged onto her name
Drag back a screeching chair, and slump into the seat
She eyes, suspiciously, the cake, the sickly icing sweet

The pure white frosting marred once more by hot and dripping wax
The trails of waxy colour mirror her cheeks with salty tracks
She spies a box of matches from the corner of her eye
The orange colour streaky from the tears that she now cries

She takes a match out from the box and strikes it on the side
Creates from wood, a burning creature in whom she can confide
The match is burning quickly and shrivels black and grey
She holds a candle to the fire, as the wood is burnt away

The fire feeds and gorges on the candles charcoaled wick
Lustfully and greedily the flame begins to lick,
The wax up from the pool and burn in all its might
She lifts another candle and lets the stem ignite

Bring the wicks to touch each other as the two fires unite
Feel the flames merge and mature, burst forth with new found light
She raises up a finger, to try and stroke the heat
Feel the flame lick along her skin, the wax and flesh compete

Her finger explodes with the pain and she smiles through bitter tears
Her nail, white-hot and her finger raw as the burning soreness sears
She whispers to her tormentor to deeper her agony
Confesses love and deep desires for just the fire to see

It is not enough the flame wont grow and she decrees her doom
Lower the flame unto the table let the fire devour the room
In leaps and skips the flame run tearing along the tabletop
She sighs and leans back against her chair as her life comes to a stop

Her world slows down; her eyes glaze over as she watches the world ignite
Her skin feels nothing as her mind sinks back into the realms of night
The sugar in the cake explodes into a brilliant blue
A monstrous blaze detonates her world as the flames engulf her too

The fire consumes her body and ravages the room
And with the heat is burning, a reeking sense of doom
