Reign over me

by backporchpoet   Sep 17, 2005

Right now we're face to face
silently staring each other down
your eyes dare me to state my case
daring me to even make a sound

but to my chagrin the words come
all the things I should have said
anything I remember, all, not just some
creak through the voice I believed dead

"I hate the way you hate me.
You've always driven me down,
all I wanted was someone to see me,
a person without a disappointed frown."

Your expression never even shifts
but my words keep coming out
they know I've got to close this rift
and now they're starting to shout

"I thought you'd be the one
I believed you cared about me
but you made me more undone
and the truth I didn't want to see.

"You scrutinized the way I looked
you said my body was a giant flaw
with each of your lies I got more hooked
and every time more 'defects' I saw.

"I listened to you more than my friends
you were the most brutally honest to me
but I realize now this has to end
There's more to me than what you see.

"I won't let you judge me any longer
You will no longer be allowed to change me."
I'm screaming at you now, feeling stronger
"You can't make me strange to me!

"you won't use my persuasion as your tool!
control is mine again, your rules, bended!
I'm not letting you and the numbers rule!
your reign over me has finally ended!"

Your face has turned as red as mine
go to swing me but I'm already there and back
shards of glass rain down like tears divine
you/me in bits of mirror now silently stare back

    Time holds the reflections,
    of all we endure.

    The mirror nothing more,
    than one moments allure.

    Peace
