What's Ten Seconds to You, Feels Like a Lifetime to Me

by Peter Williams   Sep 21, 2005

One…
The rainy days,
The coldest night,
Lost in a maze,
As my skin turns white.
Thinking thoughts,
Dreaming dreams,
A lesson taught,
Nothing is quite what it seems.
Alone with my shadows,
Alone with my demons.
Two…
The way we were,
So long ago,
It’s all a blur,
As the raven becomes a crow.
A rose was left out in the rain,
Although I guess it’s all the same,
I loosened my tie and took off my chain,
While the thunder called out my name.
In the shadows,
In the rain.
Three…
The titans clash,
While the monsters roar,
There was a flash,
When I opened that door.
Giving in to temptation,
Giving in to sorrow,
With my frustration,
Of the never coming tomorrow.
The silent shadows,
And the quiet pain.
Four…
Share my loath,
Share my feelings,
Before we both…
Suffer such dealings.
Are you a friend?
Or are you a foe?
Is this the end?
Of a life that I mustn’t know.
The shadows whisper,
And the thunder sounds.
Five...
The things I desire,
The things I need,
Into the fire,
As my heart starts to bleed.
I hope I never,
Forget the things I saw,
This heart I’ll sever,
It was a flaw.
The shadows speak,
As the rain hardens.
Six…
I reached into my pocket,
And then the other,
My heart is a locket,
I won’t need another.
I never knew,
How to say,
Give me a clue,
And make my day.
The shadows make me weak,
As the demons start to laugh.
Seven…
What do I do?
Why can’t I believe?
As if on cue,
The things that he must receive.
Before the darkness,
Before the light,
Who would’ve guessed?
That I would lose the fight.
The shadows crawl,
I can barely see.
Eight…
I can see my breath,
I can see my tears,
The scent of death,
Spreads all of the fears.
Did I live my life?
Or was it a game?
Please take this knife,
And save me from the shame.
The shadows are nearly upon me,
My back is against the wall.
Nine…
These are my wounds,
And here are the scars,
I turn up the tunes,
As I look at the stars.
Pulling out a "cig",
I am its slave,
As I dig,
Dig my own grave.
The shadows fade,
As the light returns.
Ten.
