A loved one

by Flying Phoenix   Sep 21, 2005

The stars glitter
Dancing in your eyes
The creases in your face
Deepen with your sighs
Your feeble smile
Trembles with each breath
It takes all your strength to whisper
What you had left

The patterns on your hands
Tell the story of life
The slivery scars across your arms
Show the work of a knife
Tears fall through
Well known paths
Long forgotten
Are your joyful laughs

Your grip increases
On the cold metal shaft
Your fingers feeling the groove
The trigger
Last

Pressing gently
Your grip tightens
A white bloodless limb
Holds back
Wanting to enlighten
Your mind wavers
But the move was true
The bullet travelled
Straight through

The numbness strikes
On all four limbs
You can imagine
The pressure within
That broken body
As it fell

The animal collapsed
A loved being
But the mercy strike
Gave it the freedom
From the pain
The illness had taken over

Nothing could be done
To save such a loved one

*dedicated to maddy, as I understand what she went through*
