If You Knew Me

by William Flores   Sep 22, 2005

If I wander does this mean
That I'm lost out at dark seas
As I bend and break would you see
My loneliness through the broken seams

If I smile would you feel
Happiness that's surly as real
As inner pain buried inside outer steel
And broken reflections that refuse to heal

If you knew me
Would you know?
That I'm really not
Who I always show

If you knew me
Would you see?
The "other" side
Within my very being

If I say I believe in myself
Would you see the truth?
And peer into the real self
As clouds shade doubtful youth

If I cry would it be a surprise
That I do so when I'm out of sight
When darkness falls would you realize
That broken tears can't mend at night

If you knew me
Would you know?
That I'm really
A doubtful soul

If you knew me
Would you see?
The dark side
I always hide

If I say I know would you believe
That I don't distinguish nor perceive
What I claim to know or even see
My clouds blurry and darken my sea

If you knew me
Would you know?
That you know me
But truly don't

If you knew me...
How could you?

For even I see...
That I surely don't
