Tears

My eyes have been opened
I've come to see the light
Nothing has been the same
Since that fateful night.

There was a knock at the door
A voice came through
Little did I know
That voice belonged to you

You asked my father for my hand
I listened from the hall
Closing my eyes tightly
Trying to believe it all

You told him the story
Of the very first day
How you couldn't turn your gaze
Upon me it stayed

You told him that you loved me
In a way that no one else could
You begged him to say yes
I knew he would

He didn't say a word
Just nodded knowingly
And said if it were anyone
You truly deserved me

A tear escaped from my eye
As I watched one fall from yours
And silently I thanked God
As they both hit the floor

I descended the stairs
Not the person I was before
For now I knew the truth
You were the one I'd searched for.
