Poet discovers crucifixion (written with John Sweet)

by Gary Jurechka   Oct 1, 2005

1.

the day was a leonard cohen song,
all rain- skimmed air and the
heavy gray stillness of wistful sighs
upon a vagabond wind

the day was my own,
slowly ripped to shimmering pieces
fought over by jackals and gods

2.

thoughts of her and
a time that was
settle around my naked head
like a thorned crown of melancholia

bloody tears drip into
circumstances out of control

haunted is my thinning soul
in september

3.

and the day evolves into
nothing more than itself
and i wait for revelation
i wait for retribution

and the distance
between my own two hands is what
frightens me most
