My Favorite Song

You remind me of a pause in my favorite song
where the music is gone, and the voices are swept
all that's left is a soft breath
before the next line begins.

And every change in tone paints a picture of your laughter
all those sappy ever afters
that mean nothing, but it's something more
than four a.m. as I'm slipping out your front door

And have I told you?
when your lips hit mine and those cymbals chimed
in my mind the music playing was screaming your name
like this may be the last time your ears hear the truth again.

When our hands locked and noone was there to play the guitar
my heart was strumming soft lullabies to yours
do you feel the strings being softly tugged?
Please tell me you do, tell me there's music whispering in your head too.
