JULY 30th, 1991 (a day like any other, a day like no other)

by Gary Jurechka   Oct 3, 2005

Clouds roll gently overhead
billowy puffs of fluff
float through infinite seas of azure

The music of children's laughter
over whispers of lawn sprinklers
hangs in the still, heavy air

Lilting songs of cicadas
mingle with symphonies of bird song
celebrating a glorious day for merely being

Squirrels scamper in green tree top worlds
nearby the chirp of cricket violinists
as two butterflies weave gaily through the air in dance

Everywhere, everywhen is permeated
with the sounds and sights and feel of summer
and time is slowed to a delicious lethargy

Golden-rose tints of the sinking sun
rest on the dried brown spots of grasss of late July
the evening moon, already faintly visible, is waiting

Dusky blue shadows of twilight form silent pools
flowers curl inward, preparing for slumber
between heat of day and cool of night, a comfortable warmth

The fading sun lingers on the horizon's brink
not yet ready to release the day
and I am content to sit here, to breathe it all in
