CATERPILLAR LAMENT

by Gary Jurechka   Oct 3, 2005

There's a blandness in the air
that stones me more than any drug
a stagnant taste in my mind
worse than any
morning after liquor covered tongue
it's such a slow suicide
with a hole in the heart
and a glaze over weary eyes.

I need to turn the chair to a new window.

Metamorphosis is never simple or easy
but it's a hell of a lot better
than dying in the cocoon.
