The Irony of my Life

I searched for salvation
When I opened my heart

I looked for an ending
When I hadn't made a start

I peered up to heaven
But all I saw was hell

I appear to be so open
When I'm shut inside my shell

Why did my worst enemy
Turn out to be my best friends, friend?

So eager to begin
That I can't wait for the end

The irony of my life is
I needed someone new

For years you were right there
And yet I've only just found you
