First Speech Competition

by Serendipity08   Oct 3, 2005

This is only funny if you are in speech and debate and have ever competed or been in a competition. I'm sorry if you don't understand it...

I'm sitting here in speech and debate
and I really despise the wait
I'm bored and I'm tired
My time has expired
and I feel like I'm going to be late

I've just finished round number two
and I have absolutely nothing to do
I did not bring a book
and I must overlook
the fact that I'm in IMPROMPTU

No one warned me of the nerves
whose purpose to no one it serves
The verdict was passed
My judges aghast
I hope I get what I deserve

short break

Silence is a punishment in the worst sort of way
nobody to talk to, but I have so much to say

my stressed out mind is cringing, head about to explode
though only twenty minutes passed it feels like I'm getting old

I want to pick a paper, and crumple the topic in hand
I can't wait any longer, I shouldn't have quit the band

No one can prepare for waiting, the actual speech is not bad
It's only this nerve wracking silence, that makes me extremely mad.

Please note: I wrote this poem while waiting in my impromptu round this past weekend. I was extremely nervous being that it was my first competition.

thanks it would be great if you could vote and respond
