The Good Ol' Days

by quick&painless   Oct 4, 2005

Let's venture back,
to the good ol' days,
to the time before
we all changed our ways

long before instant messaging
and mp3s,
all the way back to bee stings
and scraped knees.

let's go back before
PS2s and i-pod nanos,
back to stubbed toes
and a runny nose.

way before plasma TVs and
surround sound speakers.
back to making homemade poisons
in dad's favorite beakers.

remember jumping on the bed,
despite what mama said?
...screaming bloody murder at night
with nothing but a porch light?

when cooties was the worst thing
you could catch from a boy,
and the hardest thing to say goodbye to
was your favorite toy...

When forever
meant a week,
and a 10 year old object
was antique

when mom was the prettiest
girl in town
and dad was the coolest
guy around.

when a cut could be made better
with a sweet little kiss,
and a piece of candy for desert
was your greatest wish.

when nights were spent,
catching fireflies
and 50 cents was considered
a grand prize.

when we played power rangers
all day,
and we rushed through our homework
to go out and play.

when mistakes were made better
with the exclamation "do over!"
and a party meant a day
spent playing red rover.

when the toughest decisions were solved
by "eeny-Meany-miney-Moe"
and your older brother was admired
for his ability to throw

when getting high meant
swinging on a swing set,
and calling your friend a Meany
was your greatest regret.

i want to go back
to the good ol' days,
before everyone had to
change their ways.

come with me
to way back when,
things were simple and painless,
way back then...
