Battlefield

by Matt   Oct 5, 2005

The sunset red of the sky
Reminds me of the night we first began
That thought of a future with this girl
It made my nerves jump and my skin tingle
Then I realized we needed time and tests
So we began the exam
Toils and troubles have been ours
So far so good though
We are still so close, I can feel it
More time to wait, more trials to pass
Like a snow ball, compacting harder and harder
Just to be thrown to explode
She exploded inside my heart
Like a firework of scarlet and shimmering gold
Etched into the silver hand of memory and hope.
I was afraid to ruin it with six short words
So I held back, now for the better
But times are passing and thoughts are new
Future is now unknown, a fog over the field
A battlefield of hopes and fears
Where I pray everyday she remembers who I am
So my soul simply soldiers on while my body rests in pain
Of an questioned life that is so worth living
Because of things we know or want to.
