Why doesnt mummy love me?

by wanted dead or alive!   Oct 11, 2005

See the little girl in the corner?
with her tiny hands covering her face,
hoping we cant see her,
wishing to be in some other place,
see the bruises on her pale skin, the trembling of her hands,
the horrors held within, we cant begin to understand,
her eyes once full of wonder,
windows to her soul,
have lost the spark of innocense, she is no longer whole,
what has happened to her childhood,
days of laughter fun and play,
all the things she should have,
have been cruely snatched away,
each day she cam home in fear,
because shes nowhere else to be,
shed sit in the corner crying,
'please dont hurt me'
today shed get locked in that cupboard again,
or beaten till she bled,
maybe once shed escape,
and cower under the bed,
they'd make empty promises,
promising to 'love' her,
making her keep secrets,
letting her think shes a naughty girl,
shes been through so much already,
shes felt so much pain,
her hearts been ripped apart,
shes been punished again and again,
what did this poor child ever do?
to deserve a fate so twisted,
is her life mapped out by destiny,
is suffering all thats listed?
where can the memories go,
if there to painful to keep inside,
her feelings shes numbed,
inside herself she hides,
now as i slowly approach her,
her blue eyes fill with terror,
'its okay im not going to hurt you,
youll be safe now and forever'
tears flood her eyes because thats all shes ever wished for,
her frail arms wrap around me as i lift her from the floor,
she rests her head on my shoulder,
blonde hair, curly as can be,
tears flow down her cheeks as she whispers
'why doesnt mummy love me?'

This poem was heartbreaking, well written and insightful in equal measures. Well done.
