Farewell approaching

by katie!   Oct 11, 2005

Looming over each of our heads, a cloud
Screaming defeat to the dormant crowd
Disease is settling in, we are losing her
People die, whilst life comes through birth

A woman, sitting hunched over a mug of tea
Make up, out of line, where we can see
Shaking hands clutch to the television remote
Her soul so tired, with the angels she floats

Cries during the night with numerous pains
Hospitalised over and over again
Bitter tears slide down, the once proud face
Ashamed and frightened in this forsaken place

Phone calls at early hours of the morning
Death draws closer, the end is dawning
She has held on but for how much longer?
If only we could make her stronger

The light in those beautiful eyes has long gone
Deep within mystery lies the laughter, the songs
Her broken hearted husband lies close to her soul
Losing his heart, his life, his whole

Farewell, for you are not long for this land
We will guide you to deaths comforting hand
For you will find a respite, from shadows and fear
At peace, my dear gran, without any tears

*written for my gran who is soon to lose her battle against motor neurons disease*

Aww, Katie, that was beautiful. I am so sorry about your grandmother, and although no one in my family (that I've ever known) has died, I know the feeling of loosing someone. My poem 'Cancer' talks about that. That was beautifully and emotionally written, just amazing. 5/5 Great Job

The first and last stanzas are both beautiful! Actually the whole poem is but they were by far the best. This is honestly the best poem I've read in a long time. It's so sad. Amazing. Nearly made me cry

Oh, i'm sorry about your gran. My grandpa-in-law is dying next door, and very slowly. anyway, the poem was so descriptive and intense, I actually got tense when I read it, seriously! I could feel someone elses heart beating, too, however weird that sounds. Great job, 5/5
