Warm Springs Indian Reservation

by tyzwifey   Oct 12, 2005

Oregons biggest Indian Reservation
A treaty from 1855 put us on this land
Two other tribes was put in our nation
The Paiutes, Wasco, Warm Springs became a band
So on for the past 150 years we stayed
On this piece of land given by the white man
Keeping our tradition strong as we were made
But our native tongue was lost in this plan
Of the white mans world by going to boarding schools
Taking away our hair and precious memories
Going to school and suffer for breaking a rule
The thought or dream of home was heavenly
In the end we are considered American Citizens
Coming home to the rez was very joyful
Seeing our family and being with them again
Sad thing was we forgot our traditional rituals
Today native youth attend public school
Different races of people but now we are at peace
Indian school is where some break the rules
At home we respect Elders since these words
Are their memories of the past truth
