The porch

Last night I saw her sitting on the porch
moonlight dancing in her eyes
I quickly climbed a tree so she would not see me
scared of what she’d think
her beauty pierced my yearning heart
for her splendor was like nothing I had seen before
to this day forward I will remember
that night I saw her sitting on the porch

though the night was cold and windy
the earth was calm around her
as she swayed her golden hair
the darkness even shined upon her
but her eyes were what bound me to her
the night’s sky set them ablaze
there beauty glistened upon me as if I had seen an angel
for a second I pondered if my eyes were deceived
thy eyes did not betray me
she truly was an angel

as I leaned to take a closer look
the tree branch that I leaned on broke
I tumbled down and landed on my back
out of the corner of my eye
I saw her rush toward me
as I looked up and saw her shining face
she asked if I was hurt
I told her if a bone on my body had been broken
her beauty had quenched my pain
she looked at me and giggled
I said to her my lady
to this day and forward and forever
I will never forget the night I saw you on the porch
