The Call

by Lu   Oct 17, 2005

Her momma never took the time
to hug her with all her might
give her love and kisses
to tuck her in at night

A child wide-eyed with fear
daylight her only friend
darkness brought the nightmares
sunshine made them end

She grew into a teenager
unsupervised , running free
cocaine and alcohol her companions
a neglected warning plea

Searching for her comfort
feel loved for just one night
endless stream from man to man
a life she knew was not right

Never knowing true happiness
a hand to wipe her tears
only desertion and emptiness
passed on through the years

Never knowing her daddy
would he have held her tight
hold her in his big strong hands
make everything alright

Growing into a woman
bitter , filled with resent
to end the vicious cycle
suicide her intent

Holding the gun with shaky hands
tears of emotion run down her face
to many times of anguish
memories she can't erase

Softly in the background
she hears the ringing of the phone
indecisive whether to answer it
then a smell of sweet Cologne

She answers with a soft hello
I'm looking for a girl , last name Lance
a gently wave hits her heart
a beginning to a second chance

You see she is my daughter
the girl I never got to meet
I've been searching for her forever
the piece to make my life complete

Daddy she says bewildered
can this really be you
with the sweet smell of lingering Cologne
the answer she already knew

He was the beginning to her life
stopped it before it could end
years and years lost between
two hearts that now could mend

I've loved this poem ever since i first read it back in like 05-06 around that time... Its so cool the way you wrote it, and the last parts where her dad calls her just before shes about to kill herself, its awesome!
