Going back to the farm

by Avrii Monrielle   Oct 18, 2005

Going back to the pasture
The sweet cotton fields
Where no one knows me
But should
Farmers with their plows
Their wives cooking and ranging the cattle
As the little ones run to and fro
If I had not moved,I too would have run to and fro
I left this place at 3
I don't remember any of this at all
But it's nice
That's all to say
Mom and dad sold the farm
Some other folks moved in
Fine,maybe I remember the house
But that's it.
The new owners put out a windmill
New
No more old
So now
It's different
But hey,here's the farm
I grew up on as a baby
Never earned my tough girl status here
But hey,life gives you apples
And you should eat them

I think to myself
I'm one heck of a city girl
Because I never knew things could be this rambunctious
I sigh
And smile a little
Everything smells like hay
But I still wish I could stay
I look up at the blue sky
And grin

Why couldn't I have been a farmer's daughter?
Instead I'm just some city girl
Hey,just one more apple
For me to bite
As I pick it off the tree
Yum.
