Blackest Winter

by Samantha   Oct 20, 2005

She steps through the heavy, deep snow
It's finally the day that she must go.
The wind blows violently, she pulls her jacket close
Today she journeys to the one she loves most.

The snow flies down from the tree tops above
She's already cold, this is more than enough
To try to handle but she just can't hang on
These winter months seem to just drag on.

She wonders to herself if they'd find her body if she froze
She wonders if they'd miss her, she wonders if they'd know
That she had died but she realizes there's no one left
To care about her, and the loneliness weighs on her chest.

She nears a wooden cabin, deep in the trees.
She stops at the door, falls quickly to her knees.
You see she never gave up, she found her destination
But the door is shut. He forgot her and her salvation.

A tear rolls down her cheek, freezes on her skin
The wind blows colder, but she keeps up her chin
She stands back up, doesn't bother knocking on the door
She knows that he doesn't live there any more.

She walks back to where she started, a place far away
She rids herself of memories from that horrid day
Her pride stoped her from knocking, now she'll never know
He was there, waiting, staying inside from the snow.

Great poem, its so sad and so well written,
one small suggestion how ever is with this line

She rids herself of memories from that horrid day

I think it would flow better if you add a word or two to it, e.g

She rids herself of memories from that cold and horrid day

    Anyways 5/5
