Watching them fall

by marinecorps0405   Oct 26, 2005

I live at the outskirts of the battlefield.
I watch people run and shoot through my scope.
I watch them run like little ants plotting against us.
I wait for that perfect moment.
BOOM! I watch one fall.
one marine saved.
BOOM! another. one by one i drop them and one by one im saving my marines.
One by one i watch them fall.
to live or to die.
this is my burden.
i bare it myself.
take a life to save a life.
but who am i.
is this my purpose.
i exist to kill in order to save.
i live to extinguish life.
but what does that make me?

I really liked this poem! It was beatifully written. At first, I was kind of confused as to what you were relating this to, but throughout the poem, it was easy to comprehend. Great job, I really really liked it. I could feel the emotion behind it and it was sensational! Great job and keep up the lovely work!

"I bare it myself"...bare should be bear.

Anyway...good poem. I liked it, very strong. Makes you think about how war is such a discrepancy....people kill for the good of their country, for their men...we're both doing the same thing....protecting ourselves, but hurting ourselves. Good job bringing out such strong emotions.
