An angel's game

by Bradley Peter   Oct 26, 2005

A husband and a wife were walking
They looked up at the sky, and he pointed at a star
And while the man was talking
His beloved wife was struck down by a car

Later that night he sat in his chair
Staring blankly into the black
Contemplating why, life was so unfair
To give him perfection, only to take it back

He cried to the ceiling "it wasn't her time
There is no need for her to be dead
Please take back this awful crime
I beg you to take my life instead"

Slowly a bright light began to appear
The man sat emotionless and still
An angel appeared and said "do not fear
This is not a dream, this is real"

The man said "I do not fear but hate
You have taken the only thing for which I care"
The angel replied "lets get one thing straight
Once you arrive you must stay there"

With tears in his eyes, he looked upon the angel's face
He was beautiful and pure as he glowed in the night
Without effort the angel conquered grace
And he was truly a wondrous sight

"I understand" said the man "I want nothing more"
The angel smiled and said " and so it is done"
She will return and be just like before
But for you both a new journey has begun

For your wife was never meant to die
This was all a test of your strength"
The confused man asked "but why"
"to see you sacrifice yourself at great length

Here is the message I was sent to send
You and your wife have now been gifted
When each life is at its end
Up to heaven's golden arches youâ??ll be lifted"

The man then saw his wife return
As the beautiful angel faded away
The man's heart began to burn
As his wife said "I'm here to stay"
