Fighting Myself

by Fighter (Ariane L.)   Oct 27, 2005

Through the mirror, she smiles at me.
Her blond hair shines in the light.
Her eyes glow under their emerald shade.
Her smile brightens her complexion.

I continue to stare at her, questions.
I ask myself how she can be so happy.
I ask myself why she smiles so bright.

I ask myself how her life can seem so perfect.
When inside, she crumbled for so long.
Invisible to those who surrounded her.
Her pain was kept hidden deep within.

Looking into her eyes, I see her true identity.
Inside, the anger raged for so many years.
The sadness washed over the promised light.
The pain tore her to the bone, shattered.

Inside, her world came crashing down.
Yet, her smile never faltered.
She pretended nothing was wrong.
She wanted desperately to believe her lie.

As she stares back at me, her smile genuine.
I finally understand after so long.
Kept within herself, she fought her battles.
Kept within, she fought against herself.

Looking at my reflection, my smile genuine.
I finally understand after so many years.
Consumed by the pain, I fought against myself.
Tourmented by the memories, I was fighting myself...

*not my best, but I might try to work on it later...
