Treasure

by marilyn marti   Dec 9, 2003

I'd rather have you
than a million dollars
you led me through
made me feel taller

Father you cared
and stood by me
you were always there
you made it impossible to bleed

and through the fire
along the haze
at times I would forget
that your heart stood in place
sorry for my attitude
sorry for my hateful poems
sorry father it was just a phase

when I was at the end of the rope
when I wanted to be dead
you gave me hope
before I put a bullet through my head

and all those times I cried at night
ashamed of the past
I can never forget those fights
I never thought I could last

as the shadows started closing in
you pulled them all away
these sores have healed on my skin
you brang out a brighter day

thanks for being there
and all you sacrificed
when no one else would care
you helped me reach the skies

you stood up for me
gave up so much at any measures
and all you did was believe
dad YOU are my treasure.
