If Only I Could

by Tricia   Oct 28, 2005

We were having so much fun,
Thought we could take on the world.
Pretending to fly before she fell,
Sliding fast as I slowed.
Happened instantly,
She went under,
We bounced as we collided,
Dragging her for a few feet.
Running fast to get her,
Tears streamed down my face.
She was so bloody,
Couldn't tell it was her.
Blacking out as if a dream,
A dream that wouldn't end.
Holding her body close,
Scared she was dead.
Screaming her name in a panic,
Whispering to myself,
"Please God, not like this,
Don't let her be gone"
Carrying her to the car,
As if I was Hercules.
Watching as they left,
Taking her to the hospital.
I couldn't breath,
I couldn't move,
I was in a trance.
It was an accident,
We were having fun.
Praying all the time,
Thank you very much,
Thank you for letting her live.
She is my best,
I can't live without her.
Nightmares still awake me,
I wish I could take it all back,
If only I could.
