What If I Said I Love You?

by Anthony   Oct 28, 2005

What if I said I love you?
Would you really say it back?
What if I said I need you?
Would your red heart turn to black?

If I said I'd never leave you,
Would you get up and go?
If I said our love's a river,
Would you let it flow?

Then you told me that you love me,
And I said I love you too.
You told me that you need me,
And then away we flew.

You said you'd never leave me,
And you stayed right by my side.
You said our love's a river,
And we only rose the tide.

2 things, first off i dont think you need "red" in line 4 of stanza 1 "would your heart turn black" rolls off the tongue easier.

Second the last line doesnt work. it seems forced, like you knew tide would rhyme and you just put the first thing you could think of. I think you can do better with the last line. and end the whole beautiful thing with a memorable line that makes people want to come back and read it again.

Overall its a beautiful piece. i loved the way you use the same 2 verses in a repeating fasion. i did something like that in a poem called "love conflicting" other then minor things i loved it, its well worth me adding you to my fav list.
