The depth of winter.

by Steven Beesley   Oct 31, 2005

The depth of winter:

Incessant north wind blows so hard,
all the dullness of a Grey white winter.
The numbness of the long dark nights,
ghostly whistling and howling winds.

Soon a white blanket to cover all,
bringing the stillness and quiet of deep winter.
The barren and stark landscape,
bare trees with branches like disfigured limbs.

Ice crystals forming shards of long pointed icicles.
The pond freezing like a mirror of glass.
Grass blades frozen and as sharp as a knife.
All the meadows so void and hard.

Such a blank colorless world of
miserable black, white and Grey.
Sun's heat annihilated by the cold,
the never ending cold in the depth of winter.

    Steven ...
Your words captured the winter season so well ...

Soon a white blanket to cover all,
bringing the stillness and quiet of deep winter.
    The barren and stark landscape,
bare trees with branches like disfigured limbs

I must say this is the stanza I loved the most ...
A very visual piece drawn in my mind ...

A very good poem indeed! You have captured the nature of winter: the wind, the cold, the snow. Your use of imagery is beautiful. I can only say that, as always, this is a great work of art. Well done!
