Memories

by Jacob M Parnell   Oct 31, 2005

The memories hurt.
From that day.
Lying in the dirt.
Praying the pain would go away.
----------------------------------------
You hit mom.
Then hit me.
I tried to remain calm.
But I was one year over three.
----------------------------------------
I remember the screaming.
My sisters rushing to take me away.
I see this in my dreams.
I remember that day.
----------------------------------------
But I'm alot older now.
I'm almost sixteen.
And Ive made a vow.
That is now serene.
----------------------------------------
I'm alot bigger these days.
And your still the same.
Your thoughts are a daze.
Hidden in your own shame.
----------------------------------------
But I wont hit you dad.
I wont do what you did to me.
No matter how mad.
Only death will set you free.
----------------------------------------
I'll witness your old age.
Remind you of the pain Ive had.
You'll see my rage.
You'll still be my dad.
----------------------------------------
I'll show you these rhymes.
About what you did to me.
Remind you of all the times.
And make you see.
----------------------------------------
I was young then.
And I'm still young today.
But I was much smaller that day in the den.
Trust me dad, you'll pay.
----------------------------------------
Ive witnessed your hate.
I'm constantly reminded each day.
You think you regret now, just wait.
Until your old, and gray.
----------------------------------------
I've dealt with my reality.
And mended my sores.
I know the limits of my mentality.
But do you know yours?

Please vote/comment this took a long time to write. I put alot into it.

Everyday I look at my life and see few things that make it worse. It is until I read something like what you have written, that make me feel lucky. I'm sorry for any pain that was ever conflicted upon you, just by reading your poetry, I can see that you didn't deserve it. I can tell that you will live a good life, always stand for what you believe in.
