Never There

by JL   Nov 1, 2005

Dear Daddy,
I learned the ABCs today
My teacher told me to tell you
but i told her you are far away

Dear Daddy,
Today i learned to add
Big two digit numbers
I will show you when you are home dad

Dear Daddy,
I finished a chapter book
i did it all by myself too
this weekend i am learning to cook

Dear Daddy,
Cursive is really hard for me
i never get the letters right
Tomorrow night you will see

Dear Daddy,
Daddy, i got an A on my test
i know you are proud
i did not fail like the rest

Dear Daddy,
Next week i finish fifth grade
you will be at the ceremony right?
You gotta see the pretty dress Mom made

Dear Daddy,
Daddy, were you good at gym?
its my favorite class
Today we learned to swim

Dear Daddy,
Mommy and I got into a fight
She said really mean things
you do love me ...... right?

Dear Daddy,
I wrote my first song
about how much a i miss you
I'm sorry its three pages long

Dear Daddy,
I get the Presidential award tonight
I am sad you can not make it
you tried with all your might

Dear Daddy,
I had my fist cross country workout
the girls seem really nice
its fun to be out and about

Dear Daddy,
I got a medal for track
the only one on my team
its next to my plaque

Dear Daddy,
Uncle Johnnys dead
I really need your hug
I do not want to get out of bed

Dear Daddy,
Mr. Terrys funeral was today
i tried hard not to cry
how is the Hudson bay?

Dear Daddy,
Daddy, its my birthday
I am 16 remember?
i wish you were not away

Dear Daddy,
I medaled in Varsity
I will leave it on the table
till you come home from the city

Daddy, i cried today
I doubt you even care
but i will always love you
even if you are never there
