A veterans love

What can be thought, what can be felt every single day?
Who are we, what do we do, tell me our name.
Can you answer my questions please, I dont understand.
Why oh why God, do so many people die for freedom?

Is it to answer the whispered prayers of children who do not have the right to smile?
To show the old men and women of another age that our world is still worthwhile?
Perhaps to give back to the community, fulfill a sense of honor and debt?
No, the real reason people perish in faraway lands is because they love every woman, child, and man.

Starless nights, void of hope and full of despair, fill the lives of the men and women who care.
They toil day and night to honor the dead and keep the fire of independence burning ever so bright.
These brave souls dont wish to fight, they wish only to protect what is their right.
Next time freedom knocks at your door, do not turn away and not wish for more.

Those who sacrifice every single day, whether on the front line or sending aid.
They are the best kind of hero because they represent the greatest deed capable of man.
Heroes who love, and would give everything so they might answer a childs prayer.
Who are these people who fight for us, the men and women of the military.

Interesting write full of meaning built-up within. The flow was good as well as the structure. I really liked the imagery which you painted with this piece of poetry. Well written, keep up the good work.

Your opening stanza suceeded in grabbing my attention, and I agree with the words you said. The army is indeed amazing for the fact that they protect those us who they hold dear. I think this poem was the slightest bit generic through the military aspect, but I respect it nonetheless. An improvement you could make perhaps is shortening the lines. Looking through a second time, it would work for most lines if you split them in two. But that's up to you.

A pleasure to read, but a unique twist would help. Overall, 4/5 ^_^ Keep it up

War is sad, it shouldn't happen. I guess an American would relate to and appreciate this more, and even though I'm English, I understood the sincerety and seriousness of this issue.
I see you write much more simple than I, and although this is welcomed by many on this site, I like poems that make me reread to comprehend the message/s.
I thought it was maybe a little wordy, in terms of line length and breaks, but that might be just because again, I like concise writes more.
    Thanks for sharing.
