Razorblades and New Skin

by Daniel Alexander   Nov 4, 2005

The heart of the problem
Is hidden somewhere in a poem
I just keep looking to understand
And I can't find any clues
I don't think I have much time
To figure this out
I need to know what's eating at me
Before it escalates in to a monster
I'm afraid of my willingness
To give up and cut in
When I go to that place in my mind
The one that justifies this action
I'm slowly forgetting how to live
How to breathe and how to be
Are foreign concepts
Like an echo from distant shores
I just listen to the silence
To see if it holds any of the real answers
To life's unbearable puzzles
I'm listening
I'm listening
And razor blades give way to new skin

I really liked this poem because it seems so true because of the language. Don't mean to nitpick but 'in to' can be written 'into'. That was all i could think to say other than the obvious fantastic keep writing etc etc so keep writing. I'm gonna read some more of your stuff as it is thought provoking.

Wow that is fantastic, deep with meaningful, believable emotions. i have read so many poems about self harm online, and this one is the best by far. not falling into the 'im so depressed im gonna cut myself' realm, where meaning is skin deep and heartless, this poem conveys the truly distressing side of self harm.
all i can really say now is dont ever stop writing :)
