Witness

by Heather Prior   Nov 4, 2005

A scream heard in the darkness,
The moon the only witness.
Blood stains the forest floor
As the creatures smell death.
The stars heard it, but turned away.

A girl,
Dressed in black,
Walks empty through the trees.
Silently she walks on,
Tears staining her cheeks.
Finally, she stops,
Standing over the grave of her love.

She pulls out a gun,
Holds it to her chest.
She can't hold back her pain any longer--
Just before she pulls the trigger,
She screams,

The moon, her only witness.
She had no heart after he died,
She had turned cold everywhere inside.
The creatures felt her love,
The stars heard her cries, but
Only the moon saw it coming,
And even she couldn't keep her alive.
