Liquified Harmony

by HOLLY ARMER   Nov 6, 2005

Writing a poem about
something I've never done
I can't think of anything
that could be more fun

I envision it all
as if I'm right there
A wonderful raft has
replaced this old chair

The sun is shining
as the brisk wind blows
Snuggled in my life vest
as the anticipation grows

Surrounded by friends
but still scared to death
The rapids are ahead
I take a deep breath

Holding tight to the oar
with a prayer on my lips
We hit the first wave
and the raft sways and dips

Freezing water like ice
douses my face
We continue at
an incredible pace

Roughing the rapids
as my adrenaline pumps
Feeling each movement
of surges and bumps

Much like a roller coaster
it's definitely new
Amazed that I know
just what to do

Who would've thought
I'd be so great
A professional river rafter
Oh....heck....wait

Looking around
I'm back in my chair
It was only a fantasy
I was not really there

My oar has been replaced
by a notebook and pen
It's hard to believe
that was all just pretend

It was so exhilarating
and let me just say
I can't wait to go rafting
for real someday
