What could have been?

by Michael D Nalley   Nov 7, 2005

I examine my choices, my patience's worn thin,
I wonder in vane what could have been.
Where I have been? How have I grown,
in the joy and the sorrow that I have known.

I travel a road that seems so long,
directing my thoughts right or wrong.
Sometimes I lose, sometimes I win,
I wonder in vane what could have been.

Is the wondering all in vain?
Or do I learn from my pain?
I must willingly accept my cup,
The lord will always help me back up.

If I follow a path for goodness sake,
I will be forgiven for my mistake.
All of the pain came from the sin,
Lord help us all not to do it again.

Well, first off you confuse me with the line "I wonder in vane what could have been." because you spell it "vane" and "vain" throughout your poem.

Otherwise I really enjoy the idea.
