A Lesson Learned

Another night leaves me restless
Remembering how I've fallen
How could I have been so careless?
To think you loved me then
Before you, my heart was untouched
Not a tear had fallen from these eyes
I never knew that I could regret so much
For believing in your lies
I feel as if I've been deceived
I have done no wrong
Your beautiful lies, I believed
As if they were a song
Thrown into cursed despair
Just trying to forget
Now I know life's unfair
I gave, but haven't seen mine yet
Now I look back on all you've put me through
My eyes dried and in a new state of mind
I realize I should thank you
For the truth you helped me find
To never take that leap
I'll never let another in
Or ever fall too deep
I will never love again
My heart, I will not give, it's mine to keep
With this thought, alas I fall asleep...
