THE PROVERBS OF LUCIUS

by Gary Jurechka   Nov 10, 2005

PROVERB I

Attach oneself not
to the physical things
of this world....

better to anchor yourself
to a cloud, or throw your soul
to the wind.

----------------------------------------

Proverb II

Dreams are merely alternate realities,
unrealized possibilities,
that we can make real
if we want it enough to make it happen.

Beware, however, for
it is easier to dream
than to do.

Remember though,
anything is always possible.

And
reality is only as real as we make it.

------------------------------------------

Proverb III

Save your regrets not for those things you did,
but for those you didn't.Use time to appreciate
what is, not to regret
what is not.

Better yet, follow your heart and do the things you desire,
and in the end,
perhaps there will be no regrets at all.

----------------------------------------

Proverb IV

No matter how bad a situation or
problem, look for a
lesson learned, a growth point,
a character builder, a realization,

If you seek hard enough,
there is always something
positive to salvage.

----------------------------------------

Proverb V

There is nothing greater
or more powerful
in this world,
in this life,

than love.

----------------------------------------

Proverb VI

Being yourself is not remaining who you were then or who you are now; it is the point of departure.

----------------------------------------

PROVERB VII

Beware assuming an image,

for
given time,
the mask
becomes the
face itself.

----------------------------------------

(NOTE: Many readers, editors, friends, etc. have asked me about my Lucius poems. I came across the name when younger, it means 'of the light', and I liked that concept. The Lucius poems are usually short pieces and they have great personal meaning to me in many aspects. They are among my favorite poems I've written and have been well recieved and published in various chapbooks and small press literary magazines. There are 15 Lucius poems, a series of maxims entitled the Proverbs Of Lucius(which also has 15 parts) and various other poems with the subtitle (A Lucius Poem)).

This a great piece of work! This line is so true:

reality is only as real as we make it.

I've always thought that perception is reality.......love this one too!

    "Dreams are merely alternate realities,"

"Save your regrets not for those things you did,
    but for those you didn't"

i think this poem is one of those rare ones that you can keep coming back to - not just for the sheer beauty of the words, but because each line will have a positive impact on life.

thank you for sharing this. I think a 5 rating is too little for this.

    keep writing and take care
