Black Woman

by Vickie   Nov 10, 2005

I will rise up to meet the challenges of mankind,
They can not hold me down for the Lord will break every bind,
Like a wall I stand tall and will not crumble,
Like the oak tree I am wise yet humble,
My path may not be straight but always clear,
And the journey is what makes my soul pure,
I will rise above mankind for God has told me to have no fear
My inspiration like a fire there is non-thicker
When touched by water will only flicker,
When thrown down by society, I rise
When touched by poverty, I rise
With truth in my heart and a story in my eyes, I rise
For generations, we have taught our young how to survive in a world full of cheating and lies,
For if first we seek the kingdom of heaven all the rest will come in time,
When our children fall we pick them up,
For them we have nothing but love
No matter what path they choose we teach them to rise
Let them know they are stars in our eyes,
I guide my children through their lives,
Protect them from guns and knives
Keep them from falling to sex and scandals,
I have undeniable strength in my genes,
It is i who arose by any means
I am not some gangsta hoodlum
I...am a strong...black..woman

This poems is an inspiration to me because I think the black race needs to rise above what we are percieved as. Freed from400 years of captivity and yet we are still only good for entertainment (singers, actors, rappers) one day we will finally understand!
