It's a Lie

by the one you forgot   Nov 11, 2005

More people are dying,
As the death toll rises.
She died years ago,
But none have recovered.
She's gone now,
The idea hard to grasp.
Never got to mourn her death,
Never cried because she was gone
Forever.
Taken away from her
While she was living,
Pulled away from her funeral,
Never saw the wake.
In your attempt to protect me,
You killed my memories of her.
You made it fine then,
Made more hurt for now.
Got dragged away from her only funeral,
Couldn't cry then,
And now I cry double for today.
You saved me then,
Even though I didn't want,
Didn't need,
Saving from you.

And now he's died.
I barely knew him as more than
The man next door,
But now he's gone,
And again you try to save me from
The tears.
And again,
I won't see his funeral,
Won't see the wake,
Won't see the burial,
Won't get to mourn,
Won't get to cry.
This is the second death
I have ignored,
Because you won't let me mourn or cry
Because they died.

How long will this go on
Where the dead will be ignored?
Go on with your daily lives,
Forget that some have no lives anymore.
They are gone,
And you don't mourn,
Or let anyone else mourn.

It's a lie,
A life without death,
A death without a funeral,
A funeral without mourning,
Mourning without memories,
It's a lie.
