The Day Evil Came To Town

by Bill Turner   Nov 12, 2005

Evil hung in the air like gnats on a summer night
He could sense that it was searching for him
Looking, constantly looking, like a giant eye
Sheltered, in the nook, sunlight warming his skin
Knowing deep in his heart the attack would come again

Pale he stood a slight tremble in his hands
Voice cracking when he spoke hoping she would not see him
Suddenly out of nowhere it struck without warning
She had spotted him and chose to spew her venomous attack
He stood tall refusing to bend to her will and she fell back

He was lost, why would a mother behave this way?
He felt helpless and angry, no hope at all
The ringing of the phone made him jump
It was the voice of an angel sent from above
She delivered a message of hope and love

He had to face her yet again
Under the watchful eyes of the court
He was no longer afraid of her
The words spoken to him earlier gave him strength
He knew that she and his father would protect him at length

He left that day head held high
He had taken the higher road and prevailed
Never again would he have to face her
He realized that he no longer needed that fear
For the love of his family would never let her be near
