I wonder

I wonder.
What could it have been?
That distant shadow,
That I have just seen.

It crept up the path.
I saw it's long dark cloak,
The stench that came from it,
Made me cough and choke.

I was so intrigued,
I leant right out,
Hit my head on the window
Made me shout.

It stopped and looked,
Trying to find me.
I hid under the window
I was just three.

It's face haunted my dreams
In the rest of my dreams
I saw it again last night
All is not what it seems..
