Oh What a Day

by Bradley Peter   Nov 13, 2005

It was a morning just like any other
As I sat eating my breakfast food
I said goodbye to my little brother
And I left the house in a good mood

I thought my biggest problem was my ex
Because we'd recently just split
But my life was about to get real complex
Soon, I wouldn't worry about her one bit

Before I went out, I went to my flat
I said hi to my other brother and dad
But I had to leave and get out of there, stat
There was much fun that had to be had

I was in a total rush to see my mate
So I was almost running down the street
But he knew I was going to be late
I'd been in such a rush, never had time to eat

Got to my mates, met an old school friend
I sat in the back of his flashy car
But I didn't know it would almost be my end
As he left tire marks on the tar

Five minutes later there was a head-on crash
Came round the corner, it happened so quick
My mates got out, gone in a flash
While I was left, the stuck stick

It was lucky I was wearing a seat belt
Engine smoke filled the car air
Because I was strapped, my death wasn't felt
And so I lived with this story to share

My face and mouth was full of blood
And I was told I was missing teeth
I wanted a career as an acting stud
Now I've just got months of grief

I said "well this was a great trip"
They laughed nervously in shock
Told the paramedics about my hip
The hospital was just around the block

An hour later I laid in bed
Wires and monitors all around
Thanking my lucky stars I wasn't dead
Though my teeth were nowhere to be found

My mum and dad came, she cried
My dad also hid a frightened tear
I comforted them, well I tried
But my death was their biggest fear

I couldn't bare to even try to look
Upon my now much damaged face
That day my life was nearly took
And that I couldn't have replaced

It will set me back about 14,000 pound
To replace those two teeth I lost
My missing incisors were never found
For a stupid driver, I pay the cost

Now I'm on twelve pills a day
And I'm forbidden from eating real food
but now i feel better than OK
i survived, I'm in a 'Happy to be alive' mood

*On November 12 2005 i was in a head-on car crash. I was sitting in the back seat on the passenger side. I lost my two front teeth, with a third lodged up into my gum, my left side of my face was bruised, swollen nose and a very badly bruised hip. The front seat passenger got medication and a week off work for a chest pain and the driver didn't get a scratch. The car we hit had a baby in it but was fine. i came out worse than everyone. The crash is now being investigated and if the car is found to of not been faulty when it happened, the driver will serve a prison sentence*

Oh, what a day indeed, and you told it completely with good rhythm. Nice work though not a nice incident.

Dang. I'm sorry dude. Man that shows how amazing God is. You weren't even in the back seat and you have more damage than the people in the front seat and it was an head on collision. That's an awesome poem. 5/5
