Conformity

by Ariana   Nov 13, 2005

You say you're free
by obeying his word
this man playing God
for minds easily swayed.

But you are not free
in your colourless life
a black and white existence
where those who don't fit in
to your ideals are expelled
for their apparent promiscuity
or their opposing sexuality,
but who says you get to choose
what is right and what is wrong?

That is not religion.
Hate is not religion.

You've built yourself a prison
where normality is eluded
and diversity excluded
and you impose your hate on children
How can they fight against themselves?
when the colour of their skin
decides whether they have sinned.

And yet by others who can see
you're looked down on with pity
as you flaunt your naivety
and your darkly tainted beliefs

You restrict yourself to conformity
and your ignorance is cruel.
You have returned the gift of freedom
and so my soul cries for you.
