Life before Living

by Nikki Z   Nov 14, 2005

She's been burdened by a life she cannot live,
Always been told how and when,
To do the things one must do,
To live the life her parents drew,
Trapped in the saddness,
And constant pain,
There's not much to gain,
From a life lived this way,
All she wants is the freedom to choose,
To make her own decisions,
And even to lose,
For life is full of lessons,
Learned from mistakes,
What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger, they say,
A good head on her shoulders,
A strong heart in her chest,
The only thing missing is her freedom at best,
The struggle she goes through,
To get what she needs,
Is grueling and hurtful,
She's down on her knees,
Too weak to stand up,
But too proud to fall down,
She's stuck in the middle,
She's down and out,
She needs someone to hold her close,
To dry her tears,
And encourage her to keep fighting for the end is near,
Soon will come college,
And the opportunities too,
Once you're at the bottom the only way is up, my dear,
So hold on tight to your dreams,
They're closer than ever,
You're anything but weak,
Not much longer and you will find,
Through the pain and regret,
It's worth the fight.
