Walking Dead

by the one you forgot   Nov 15, 2005

She looks up at him,
Eyes fearful,
Blade shiny.
His mouth grim but smiling.
Opens her mouth to plead,
Beg,
For her life.
His eyes laughing
At her.
Rage inside of her,
But she's afraid to move.

He looks at her,
She sees his soul,
His mind.
His life plays back
To her,
And she knows it's over
For her.
She’s seen too much
Already.
What he did,
He must cover his tracks.
No, please,
She says,
But still he
Brings down the blade.

He leaves her,
Smiling at his success.
Another kill,
Another day.
Blood leaking from her
Throat.
Gasps for breath,
Heart rushes and beats
Frantically.
Lungs grasping,
For air they do not possess.
And she's gone.

Family calling,
Mother crying,
Father struggling to stay strong.
They yell,
Calling her name.
She watches from heaven,
Tears rolling down her face.
Police are called,
Body found,
Killer living next door.
No one knows.
Will they ever?

Mom remembers her face.
Since she was born,
Images flash,
Memories haunt,
Taunt.
Saying,
You failed
As a mother,
She died,
It’s your entire fault.

Father remembers her personality.
Always smiling,
Always laughing,
Gets angry,
Filled with rage.
Who would kill?
His daughter?
Kill her cold blood,
And not think twice?
Bring the knife down,
After what he had done.

Months follow,
Family is the
Walking dead.
Wanting to meet her
In a better place.
They know even hell
Would be better than this.
The line is blurred
Between life and death.
Souls are here,
Bodies moving,
Hearts beating.
But they aren't alive.
The walking dead.
She’s not alive either,
Watches her family,
Watches her killer.
Sends her father messages
That the man next door
Killed her,
Made her no more.

She walks in heaven,
They walk earth.
Her body mutilated,
Theirs intact.
But both are doomed to live alone.
But both will meet again.
