Cannibal

by Stumbling Shaman   Nov 16, 2005

Out of place, out of time
A past too dark to be erased
A trail of bodies left behind
Is my contribution to the human race
Weeding the free
Cutting down the weak
This is my legacy

Tainted soul, havoc wrought
The taste of blood, emptiness bought
Life is priceless, death is free
But the ultimate price was paid by me
I stand alone, trying to atone...
Perhaps a way will be shown
By slaying only the monsters of the world

For every innocent life I stole
For every mind and soul I broke
For every drop of blood I shed
For every last tear that flowed
And for every demon that I fed
I shall hunt in the shadows
Until my conscience is clear

I was borne of the night
And that is where I'll remain
Those of you who live in the light
Shall never know my name
Only if you cross into my world
Selling your soul for material gain
Have you any reason to fear

I am aware of the divine spark within
But caught between what I've done
And who I've become
I consider such knowledge a blight
I am destined to roam, forever in the dark
Seeking an end to what I've begun...
The light of day will never taint these eyes

I have to confess, my friend Fryguy (check out his poems- they're good) helped me complete the second verse when I had no idea how to go about it. Thanks, man.
