Passport To Freedom

by RainbowSlider   Nov 16, 2005

What is freedom to a person?
Is a bill of rights
or is more than that?
Is it heritage
or birthright?
Is it the right to be free
or does it even go much deeper?
From birth to the grave
in America we have inalienable rights.
But what is the deepest
of all freedoms?
The freedom to be yourself.
The freedom to say
whatever is on your mind
not based of morality
or any other reason.
If you allow others
to be themselves
but not yourself
the same freedom
then who are you hurting?
We sometimes try
to change for others
and let others change us
but if we are not accepted
for ourselves
then are we accepted?
But at the deepest level
what if we can't
accept us?
To be oneself
is the greatest freedom.
To know oneself
is true freedom.
To be oneself
with another
being their-self
frees both.
