The Rope

by Hilary   Nov 17, 2005

The phone call came in this morning
Before the sun began to rise
As he listened to her frightened words
I watched a tear fall from his eye
He looked to me for comfort
As I reached out my hand
His gaze fell to the floor
He was too weak to stand
I didn't know what was happening
It was all so sad to tell
A story of a lost spirit
One I knew all to well
Her family was too oblivious
To see the pain that she felt
Facing drugs and depression
The cards of despair that she was dealt
They tried to bring her back
From the life that she led
They showed her love with tenderness
But she couldn't hear anything they said
She was too far gone from them
Still living in her uncertainties from the past
She was too blind to the light
her darkness was too much to surpass
And so, when the world was sleeping
She hid away up in her room
Focusing on old indiscretions
Living amongst the gloom
With tears in her lonely eyes
She stood atop the chair
Looking down at the carpet below her
She stated the Lords Prayer
She gave into her agonies
It was too hard for her to cope
As she took her last step forward
And gave into the rope...
