No, I am not independent
and not even one country
is really independent
because we rely on others.

I have certain strengths
but I also have weaknesses.
Mutual dependency allows
me to talk and to listen.

I am not an island
but I thought I was once.
I lived in an illusion
and fantasy seemed real.

I was in the world
but the world
was both real
and unreal.

I see others
and judge
by what I see
similar and different.

I can give and receive.
I can teach and learn.
I can share and accept.
I can help and be helped.

I can agree to disagree
or give my advice
but we all have choices
and that is why we are free.

You can believe anything
you want to believe
but my choice is mine to make
and that choice is to be free.
