I am Thankful...

by Briie   Nov 19, 2005

I wrote this for my Honors English class...

I have a question,
Would you rather have:
War, hunger, violence,
or would you rather
Love, Peace & Silence.
Now I think I know the answer,
But let me explain,
That everthing we\'re thankful for
Is here because of pain.

Do you not understand?
Look around you,
What do you see?
You see several different races.
Not just you and me.
Now I\'m not just thankful for,
Happiness or family,
Down here or up above.
I\'m also thankful for this right here,
All of our love!

People before us had to deal with,
Racism and hate.
This was all real,
And is still here to this date.

If segregation still existed,
I wouldn\'t know most of you guys,
I would be treated like dirt,
And be caught in horrible lies.
I am thankful for today,
And that the world is a better place,
Not so much hatred,
On just one single race.

Now hear my voice!
Hear my words...
... Just listen.
America has come so far,
So let our growth and glory glisten.
For we are all different,
And we are all the same.
Sure America has glory.
But now it has fame.

We don\'t care about color,
We are all so mixed.
Other countries may stumble with this problem,
But we won\'t, No we won\'t,
Because you know why... It\'s fixed.

And all this is why I am thankful.
